Why Kristen is Biking to Help Northern Ugandan Children:

I have seen the Invisible Children documentary several times and am deeply touched by the story. It makes me realize how much we have here and how ridiculous the silly things that we complain about truly are.

I feel that I am capable and determined to create change in the world and am a firm believer in education. I hope that the children who are affected by the money we raise will one day live in peace and realize that the world can be a good place.

I am so lucky to have what I have and the opportunities that I have been given. I hope the children of Uganda will soon be able to live a life of filled with peace.

By raising donations mile by mile, I hope that people will be motivated by our actions and want to help out those in need by even just donating a few smackaroonies!

Why Mark is Biking to Help Northern Ugandan Children:

The first time I saw the documentary of Invisible Children was my freshman year of college, September 2005. After leaving the showing, I was pondering various ways I could contribute and benefit the lives of these children. Since I’m a poor college student, I couldn’t financially contribute money to the cause. Being an active member of Colorado State’s biking team, I realized I could bike across America and have people sponsor me for every mile I cycle, use my strengths to help these children.

The reason we chose to have our donations given to Schools for Schools Program is because Kristen and I have both been privileged and given the opportunity to receive an education and feel that these children should have the same opportunity.  A proper education will give these children the tools and skills to emerge as future leaders of their communities and country.

So I hope you join us on this adventure we are embarking upon so we can share with you our funny stories, experiences, and lessons we learn along this long bike ride. We appreciate your time and we hope you can help by donating money, food, shelter, and telling your friends about Invisible Children Organization and our Buy a Mile Teach a Child fundraising program.

Who Are We and What We’re About

We met our freshman year and have been good friends all throughout college. Our friendship has been tested in more ways than one, whether it was Mark screaming at Kristen to drive faster to make it to a bike race on time or deciding to drive to Vegas on a whim and sleeping in Kristen’s Volvo all weekend. We have traveled together and although we have never spent 3 months straight together, we are both excited to see what adventures the summer will have to offer us. We have decided to take this trip for many reasons, some personal and some shared.

A motivational speaker by the name of Mark Hoog once said, when a new idea came to mind, before the negatives were discussed, he always addressed why he could, why he should, and why he would. We are young and able to make this journey, we aren’t tied down to jobs or families, and we want to help a good cause. Honestly, there aren’t too many negatives to stop us!
